The National Association of Government Archives and Records Administration and the Council of State Governments have said that &#8220;state archives are the guardians of much of a state&#8217;s public documentary heritage, resources essential in establishing a citizen&#8217;s rights, understanding his past, coping with his present, and planning for his future&#8230;The value of a state archive stems from the information it contains and the evidence it provides. Its records are essential to administrative and cultural continuity.&#8221;</p>

<td><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">DUTIES:</span></strong>  Responsible for planning, developing, and coordinating an electronic records management program that includes publishing an electronic records management manual and developing workshops for agencies; planning, developing, coordinating, and designing new automated procedures for the inventory, records management and research functions of the State Archives; training staff members and state agencies; plan, design, develop, coordinate, publish to and maintaining the Colorado State Archives website; responsible for research and reference services to citizens; state and local government agencies, and the three branches of state government.</td>

<td><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</span></strong>  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master degree in public history or archives management <strong><em>(you must submit a copy of your transcripts, showing your degree, with your application or your application will be rejected)</em></strong><em><strong> </strong></em><strong>AND</strong> three (3) years experience in computer applications (Access, Excel, HTML, Web Editors, Database Design), records management, Colorado history and Archives collections <strong><em>(this experience must be documented in detail on your application or your application will be rejected).</em></strong><strong><em></em></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">SUBSTITUTION: </span></strong> A combination of work experience in Archives, which provided the same kind, amount, and level of knowledge acquired in the required education, may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the masters degree.  There is <strong>NO</strong> substitution for the required three (3) years experience in computer applications (Access, Excel, HTML, Web Editors, Database Design), records management, Colorado history and Archives collections</p>

<h1>Society of American Archivists Philip M. Hamer and Elizabeth Hamer Kegan Award</h1>
<p>The Philip M. Hamer and Elizabeth Hamer Kegan Award Subcommittee of the Society of American Archivists seeks nominations for the 2012 award.</p>
<p>This award recognizes an archivist, editor, group of individuals, or institution that has increased public awareness of a specific body of documents through compilation, transcription, exhibition, or public presentation of archives or manuscript materials for educational, instructional, or other public purpose. Archives may include photographs, films, and visual archives. Publication may be in hard copy, microfilm, digital, or other circulating medium.</p>
<p>Recent winners include:</p>
<ul>
<li>2011 University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee Libraries March On Milwaukee Civil Rights History Project Team</li>
<li>2010 The Giza Archives Project at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston</li>
<li>2009 Ward M. Canaday Center for Special Collections of the University of Toledo’s “From Institution to Independence”</li>
<li>2008 Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and the CBC Digital Archives (Les Archives de Radio-Canada)</li>
</ul>

<p>Rep. Jason Chaffetz  (R-UT3) introduced on July 14 H.R. 2531-Stop Wasting Archive Grants Act of 2011, which would repeal the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Division of Preservation and Access of the National Endowment for the Humanities will be accepting applications for grants in its Humanities Collections and References REsources program. These grants support projects to preserve and create intellectual access to such collections as books, journals, manuscript and archival materials, maps, still and moving images, sound recordings, art, and objects of material culture. Awards also support the creation of reference materials, online resources, and research tools of major importance to the humanities. Maximum awards are $350,000 for up to three years.</p>
<p>Eligible activities include:</p>
<ul style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;">
<li>arranging and describing archival and manuscript collections</li>
<li>cataloging collections of printed works, photographs, recorded sound, moving images, art and material culture</li>
<li>implementing preservation measures, such as basic rehousing, reformatting, deacidification, or conservation treatment</li>
<li>digitizing collections, or preserving and improving access to born-digital resources</li>
<li>developing databases, virtual collections, or other electronic resources to codify information on a subject field or to provide integrated access to selected humanities materials</li>
<li>creating encyclopedias</li>
<li>preparing linguistic tools, such as historical and etymological dictionaries, corpora and reference grammars</li>
<li>developing tools for spatial analysis and representation of humanities data, such as atlases and geographical information systems (GIS)</li>
<li>designing digital tools to facilitate use of humanities resources</li>
</ul>
<p>The new guidelines, which include sample proposal narratives, can be found at <a title="NEH Grants" href="http://www.neh.gov/grants/guidelines/HCRR.html">http://www.neh.gov/grants/guidelines/HCRR.html</a>  The application receipt deadline of July 15, 2009 is for projects beginning May 2010.
