Welcome

From Patty Rettig, President

The Society of Rocky Mountain Archivists (SRMA) is an active professional organization. In addition to publishing a quarterly newsletter, the Society meets twice a year to promote education and awareness of archival issues. Meetings/conferences are usually held in late spring and fall and may include formal talks, panel discussions, and repository tours. SRMA also sponsors workshops with various organizations. Occasionally SRMA holds joint conferences with other organizations, such as the Conference of Inter-Mountain Archivists, and with other related professions, such as records managers.

This year’s presidential theme is “Connections and Conversations.” The goal is to encourage members to get to know each other more, both as colleagues and as institutions. This will emerge as new website, conference, and newsletter features. Creative ideas and volunteers are welcome!

SRMA was formed in 1979, when a group of Denver-area archivists founded the Society of Colorado Archivists. In 1992, Wyoming archival professionals requested membership in the Society and with this inclusion, the name changed to reflect members' locations throughout the Rocky Mountain area. In 2004, the Society merged with the Colorado Preservation Alliance to further common interests.

Membership is open to any person institution interested in archival activity in the Rocky Mountain region. The commonality of members is that all are concerned with the access and preservation of the evolving historical record. If you have any questions about joining SRMA, please contact the Membership Coordinator or fill out the membership form.
