Two meetings are held each year (spring and fall) at different locations in the region to provide a forum for the exchange of archival ideas and the renewing of collegial acquaintances. The meetings include formal sessions, group discussions, repository tours, and business meetings. Members are encouraged to participate in ad hoc committees which meet throughout the year.

SRMA cooperates with other professional groups and institutions to offer a variety of workshops that are useful to professional archivists and members of allied professions. In conjunction with the National Archives, SRMA has sponsored the Modern Archives Institute in Denver. It has also sponsored workshops with the Society of American Archivists, and the Colorado and Wyoming Association of Museums.
