Karen noted that the Colorado Preservation Alliance traditionally offers a discount to CPA members for their conferences. She thinks they give a 15% discount which would make the cost $35. Karen asked if SRMA would consider offering the same discount to SRMA members. It was voted to offer the discount to SRMA members.

Steve Fisher wrote that MAC will be holding their fall 2002 meeting in Rapid City, South Dakota. He asked if he should approach them about a joint meeting. The vote was against having another out-of-the area meeting for awhile.

Karen noted that Todd Ellison has offered to host a SRMA meeting at his new facility at Ft. Lewis College in Durango. Steve stated that Ft. Lewis is available only in the spring and suggested holding the fall 2002 meeting in Denver and the spring 2003 meeting in Durango. Karen also mentioned that Lisa Backman had offered the cable center as a possible site for a conference.

Nancy Freeman wrote that she was working on getting a panel lined up for the spring 2002 Meeting. She asked if she could offer each panel participant a straight $50 stipend for his or her time rather than mileage. With response from 5 Board member approval was given before the question was asked if the question pertains only to the spring meeting, or if this would be a SRMA policy. Mark pointed that paying speakers a flat fee versus mileage could create publicity problems as well as have a possible long-term negative impact on our budget. Karen pointed out that in the past we have approved paying speakers who were coming from a long distance, but generally local speakers have volunteered their time.

Since approval had already been given to pay the speakers a flat fee of $50 before the negative votes were heard this issue will be a topic of discussion for the business meeting to be held at the fall meeting.

Respectfully submitted,

Marge Benham,
Secretary
