Where: Denver Water, Denver Colorado
Costs:
Students ($30)

Our Agenda:
In the morning, we’ll have two speakers from outside the SRMA region. Patricia Franks, San Jose State Professor Emerita, will explore the potential for paradata as a tool for AI description. Robert NaƱes, University of Houston-Clear Lake, will provide practical examples of AI projects he’s done at his archives.
Afternoon sessions will include a presentation from Abby Hoverstock and Katie Rudolph from Denver Public Library, where they will discuss the ways the Archives team at Denver Public Library has utilized Large Language Models (LLMs), including Gemini and GPT5, in their work.
"With nascent technology comes experimentation to find ways AI can assist with tasks in an archives setting. Katie Rudolph will discuss how her use of LLMs has evolved from formatting oral history transcripts to distilling spreadsheet data during digital archives processing. Abby will describe some of the ways she has used AI to assist with management tasks and data visualization. The presenters will reflect on this work, including lessons learned, ethical concerns, and what comes next."
We will also have a panel conversation featuring Meg Brown-Sica at Colorado State University Morgan Library, Shaun Boyd at History Colorado, and Sam Schiller at Colorado State Archives to discuss successes and challenges with AI projects at their institutions. Audience participation will be encouraged, and attendees will come away with a shared understanding of common obstacles institutions face when implementing AI in their archives, along with suggestions for overcoming them and opportunities for further training.
Registration deadline: Monday, May 18
