Hello everyone,
It was such a pleasure to see you all yesterday at the SRMA Conference! This was my first time attending, and I was thrilled to meet so many people who are dedicated to preserving the history of our region.
I'm writing today to express my interest in the position of Diversity & Inclusion Director, and to kindly ask for your support by writing in my name when the voting form goes out next week.
Since I didn’t have the chance to meet everyone in person, I'd like to briefly introduce myself. My name is Alyssa Vargas-Lopez, and I am a proud Colorado native. I currently work as the Museum Services Administrator at the Pueblo City-County Library District. Although I am not a trained archivist, I am deeply passionate about diversity and inclusion as they relate to historical preservation. I’m fortunate to work alongside an incredible team of archivists—including my husband—who continue to inspire and teach me every day.
I have worked in the museum field for eight years, holding a variety of positions at institutions such as the National Museum of American History, the National Portrait Gallery, the National Blues Museum, and History Colorado. You can find a full overview of my experience in the CV I’ve attached.
Community involvement is very important to me, both professionally and locally. I’m committed to putting in the time, energy, and heart needed to support others, and I genuinely enjoy organizing meetings, programs, and events that foster connection and growth.
As you fill out your ballots next week, I hope you will consider writing in my name for the role of Diversity & Inclusion Director.
Thank you so much for your time and support. I look forward to getting to know you all better!
Best regards,
Alyssa Vargas-Lopez
